-20 children get free surgery
The humanitarian club, EKO CLUB International, extends its free medical mission to the Ikorodu community as Ipakodo in Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, on Wednesday benefits from free health care and surgeries for its residents.
The 2024 edition of the programme started last Saturday and had gone round many locations in the state with thousands of people benefitting.
At the Ikorodu Ferry Terminal venue for Ikorodu phase tagged, “Ipakodo Medical Outreach”, over 500 residents were provided with medical services – medical consultations, treatments and drugs at no cost.
While the free medical mission was going on, the screening for free surgery for children took place at the General Hospital in Lagos Island, Lagos, where 20 children who qualified were given surgical treatment for their limb deformity.
The outreach provided a wide range of health services – cancer screenings, breast lump examinations, blood pressure checks, and hypertension management. Additionally, check-ups that covered prostate, ulcer management, heart disease assessments, and eye care were also offered.
Special attention was also given to children with medical complaints.
The comprehensive approach ensured everyone with a health complaint received prompt and appropriate care.
Many of the beneficiaries of the ECI gesture thanked the group for the medical support.
Dr Lola Ogbara Alogba, ECI General Secretary, and Chairman 2024 ECI Medical Mission, said it feels good that her group is impacting on the grassroots people.
She commended the turnout stating that people are becoming more aware of their health and ensuring good care.
“The turnout here is good. I think that people are becoming more aware of their health. The crowd is patient with us.
People of Ikorodu and other Lagosians at large, should be expecting more from us; more medical cares, more surgeries and more of food palliatives. We are always here for Lagos State.
We normally target about 500 in every community and I am quite sure we have seen more than that here,” she enthused.
Chief Oludayo Ajose Shotomiwa, the Olisa of Ipakodo, thanked the ECI for bringing the mission to Ipakodo.
“The is very fantastic and we really appreciate their effort. This is what we are expecting as a community and for the fact that the project was brought to our community. We want to commend Eko International Club for using our community to carry out such laudable project.

Mrs Peju Akinyemi, one of the beneficiaries said she heard about the outreach two days to the event and decided to attend because she lost her glasses three months.
